This is a description of the Mexican half & half tarantula, also known as Psalmopoeus victori. This species is arboreal and belongs to the New World group of tarantulas. It has a fast growth rate and can reach adult sizes of 12cm to 14cm. The spider has a unique coloration, with vibrant red on the backside and dark coloration on the front legs. It also has a green carapace. Females can live up to 10-12 years, while males have a shorter lifespan of 2-3 years. However, it’s important to note that this tarantula is not for beginners. It has a defensive and aggressive temperament if provoked and requires specific environmental conditions to thrive. The recommended climate is 26-28°C in summer and 22-24°C in winter, with humidity levels between 70-80% and good ventilation. For enclosure, it’s recommended to have an arboreal setup with at least 4 times the size of the spider in vertical space, 10cm to 15cm of substrate, a vertical shelter like hollow cork bark or bamboo, and a customary water dish. This species is endemic to the moist forests of Veracruz, Mexico, and is extremely reclusive. It’s usually found in tree cavities at a medium height and can be difficult to observe. Juvenile specimens measure approximately 3-4cm, sub-adults range from 6-8cm, while adults can reach sizes of 13-14cm.
